'Strip Therapy 10' for Hoffman Bali Pops®
Quilt designer/pattern maker Brenda Henning of Bear Paw Productions released her (drum roll, please) TENTH pattern book for Hoffman Bali Pops: “Strip Therapy 10: Bali Pop Epidemic,” which features our 5G collection. Brenda also introduced a new pattern series inspired by our new Hoffman Bali Snaps and Hoffman Bali Crackers. She has dubbed it “School of Charm patterns” with an initial group of four patterns.
Back in Strip Therapy V, Brenda explained a great tip for working with slightly irregular strips. She has kindly offered the page from the book for us to share. Download her instructions by clicking on sewing strips.
'Heaven and Nature Sing' by McKenna Ryan

'Best Use Of Color' winner
The gorgeous "Masquerade" by Birgit Schueller of Germany won the Best Use of Color category sponsored by Hoffman California Fabrics in the 2013 Road To California Quilter's Showcase held in January.
"Masquerade" is an original design that Birgit started in 2011 and finished in 2012.
Birgit has become a well-known and popular instructor of machine quilting, as she frequently leads classes and workshops in the U.S.
Here is her "artist statement" provided by Road To California: The gorgeously bright and wild Mardi Gras-themed fabric I used for the kaleidoscope center portions of the stars inspired me to design this original quilt. For the center portion, I traced and enlarged four of the masks. Colorful feather and star quilting designs plus embellishments with fuzzy yarns, gold paillet trim and hotfix Swarovski crystals add to the full Mardi Gras feeling!
Hoffman California Fabrics is delighted to serve as an annual participant in the Road2CA quilt competition. Check show operator Carolyn Reese's Backroads Blog frequently for the latest news, instructor profiles and information on the 2014 event and conference.
Why Quilts Matter
Indeed they do! Shelly Zegart, historian, professional quilt appraiser
and co-founder of The Alliance for American Quilts, explains the historical, artistic, political and cultural influence of quilts and quilt-making in the new PBS documentary series Why Quilts Matter.
Hoffman California Fabrics, entering its 89th year in business in 2013, is proud to help sponsor this important nine-episode documentary, which is available in a DVD set for purchase through the Why Quilts Matter online store. The series also is airing on select PBS stations over the next three years. Consult your local listings for the PBS scheduled airings of Why Quilts Matter: History, Art & Politics. Mariposa Grove batik line by McKenna Ryan
Inspiration for McKenna's new floral-infused batik collection bloomed while she was teaching a class. She had asked her students what designs they would like to see from her, and they replied, "flowers" -- a theme already stirring in McKenna's creative consciousness.
Mariposa Grove - McKenna Ryan Signature Batiks (mariposa is the Spanish word for "butterfly") offers intense jewel-toned colors and wonderful natural-texture patterns. She envisioned quilters injecting dimensional effects into their projects with the various textures. She also created two selvege-to-selvege patterns for the collection, with the idea that quilters could use them for borders, landscape quilting and big-block projects.
McKenna new quilt series using fabrics from the Mariposa Grove collection (and some Hoffman Bali Batiks and Hand-dyes) is the lush Bella Garden. Retailers can order patterns for McKenna's new multi-block quilt design from her website, Pine Needles Designs.
