The talent at Hoffman runs deep — from our textile designers to our customer service pros to our sales force to our distribution team and beyond. So it’s no surprise that one of our own — Debbie Vaupel — would win an Award of Merit for Outstanding Achievement in Quilting from the National Quilting Association.
Debbie, who is the traffic coordinator in our manufacturing division, was honored by NQA for her quilt she entered in the guild’s biannual show held in September. Debbie has been a lifelong quilter. Here is her quilter’s statement:
“This year was the Quilt Show for the guild I belong to, Flying Geese Quilt Guild in Orange County, Calif. I entered my quilt, “Sweet Dreams Sweet Pea,” which was created from the pattern” Diamond Jubilee” by Jocelyn Ueng that I found in “Quilt” magazine, June/July 2013 issue. My inspiration for this quilt was from a dear friend who asked if I would make a quilt for her daughter using her crib bedding. The crib bedding consisted of four fabrics and the rest I was able to find in my stash.
“Also included, on the back of the quilt, is her baby blanket — which, I have my husband to thank for insisting that I included the blanket within the quilt. It definitely adds that final touch to the quilt. I know she’ll cherish her quilt for years to come. She will always be my “Sweet Pea.”
“I was so honored to see that I received the Judges ribbon from the N.Q.A. CJ, Award of Merit, for Outstanding Achievement in Quiltmaking. That was definitely the icing on the cake.”
